SUNY Geneseo, a small honors college 35 miles south of Rochester, NY, won top listing for out-of-state value for public colleges. That means Geneseo is tops in the academic field and in the same category as UNC Chapel Hill.
Each year, I am surprised by the number of outstanding colleges that students overlook. There are many reasons students dismiss colleges from their final lists and most of the reasons are quirky.

The best out-of-state values are these top five colleges: SUNY Geneseo, UNC Chapel Hill, SUNY Binghamton, U of Virginia, College of New Jersey.
These five colleges are highly recommended by me and obviously I am not alone in my appreciation for the academics and economic value of these colleges.
Selecting a college, preparing for and being successful with the admissions process and navigating the financial piece is a daunting task. Each step has its perils, but none more than the financial piece. Be fiscally savvy in the selection of colleges and you will be ahead of the game in more ways than one.
