Hello Friends,
I am back from another college tour. Late January and February are great times for college visits. If a college looks good to me in February, it is a sure bet that the same place will look pretty darn good in September when the students arrive. I also like to visit colleges when the students are well entrenched in their studies, therefore, getting a feel for the real college experience. I just returned from visiting Fairfield University, Connecticut College, Hofstra, Stony Brook, Iona, Adelphi and Manhattanville, --the Long Island tour.
I have learned a great deal about these colleges from my visit. During my visits I am always struck by the types of questions that parents and students ask. Tour guides are not professionals, but the questions are asked of these young adults. My next entry will give you some suggestions for questions to ask the admissions staff and what to look for during your visit.
College visits are more than visits to dining halls and dorms, and are even more than visits to the library and athletic facilities.
What do you think is important during your visit?
Your College Connection,
Brenda Breton
